Firmware
Nodeware firmware
Nodeware is the firmware on every Proxy Node Raw board, installed and print-tested before it ships. A node can update over the air once it is connected to an account or given an update key; public downloads for installing it yourself are not published yet.
Releases
Your installed firmware and public downloads.
Read the firmware version on your node's local page or in GET /status. The shipping image is recorded for each unit; a historical bench result does not qualify every later release. Your account shows the version last reported by a connected node.

Downloads not published yet
Public release artifacts, their checksums and the terms they are offered under are not published. Eligible releases can reach connected nodes through the account's update controls. Those managed updates do not provide a public first-install download.
Want a board that already has firmware on it? Proxy Node Raw ships preprogrammed.
Installing
A blank board and an existing node are not the same job.
First installation
A board that has never run Nodeware needs the bootloader, the partition table and the application written at their own flash offsets — or a single merged image that contains all three. The over-the-air application binary is not sufficient on its own, and flashing it to a blank board produces one that does not boot.
Updating an existing node
A node that already runs Nodeware takes the application image into its spare slot and swaps on the next boot, with the previous image kept as the rollback target. Nodes connected to an account can do this unattended; the same image can be pushed over the LAN.
Before you flash anything
Confirm your board model before flashing. Use the first-install instructions for a blank board and the update instructions for an existing node. Installation or recovery may erase stored settings, including Wi-Fi credentials and any per-node configuration.
Use an image intended for your exact board. ESP32 boards are not interchangeable: the same family name covers different flash sizes, different PSRAM configurations and different pinouts, and an image built for one is not a build for another.
Terms
What a download is, and what it is not.
A firmware download, when there is one, is a compiled release. Source-code publication has not been announced.
The wire protocol is a separate matter and is documented, simulated and testable today — see the open protocol. Simulator and conformance-tool access is free of charge and by arrangement, with no public download. A documented protocol and a downloadable binary are both different from published source code.
Support for Proxy Node Raw differs from support for do-it-yourself installations. A board we programmed and tested is one we can reason about; a board somebody flashed themselves may differ in flash size, PSRAM, antenna or pinout, and we cannot promise it behaves the same.
